About Manthika

Manthika makes school textbooks for CBSE students, and a free practice site to go with them. The idea behind both is one sentence: a student should be able to learn a subject from the book alone — no tutor, no coaching class, nobody sitting beside them.

What we publish

Mathematics and science for Classes 6 to 12, written chapter by chapter against the CBSE syllabus — eighteen titles in all, built one at a time. Each book teaches from zero, works an example before it asks for anything, and solves every problem it prints. The first titles are still in production; nothing is in print yet.

Free to read, and what that means

The full text of a book is free to read on this site. What you can buy is the finished PDF — the whole book, offline, printable, yours to keep. The reason the text is free is not a trial or a teaser: a student who cannot pay should still be able to read the book. Pricing says exactly what costs what.

How the books are written

Openly, and in more detail than is usual — How we write sets out the method, and the trust charter sets out what we will and will not claim. If a number appears in something we publish, the way it was measured is one link away. Nothing here says a book raises marks, because we have not measured that.

Who runs it

Manthika is operated as a sole proprietorship in India. It is small — small enough that the person building the books is the person who answers the email.

Questions, corrections, payment problems and data requests all go to the same inbox, and a real person replies: Contact. Corrections are especially welcome — a textbook with a mistake in it is a bad textbook, and we would rather hear about it than not.
