CBSE · Classes 6 to 12

Nobody knows what your learner did not understand today.

The teacher has forty other learners to watch. A coaching class is a second classroom with the same limits. A gap that opens in September shows in March.

A mother on a sofa, her arm around her son, looks over his shoulder at the lesson on his phone.

Where a mistake goes

Follow one wrong answer through a week.

Tuesday’s homework has a wrong answer in it. Here is what happens to it.

  1. In class

Real Numbers is taught once, at one pace, to forty learners.

  2. Homework

Question 4 is wrong. The guide prints the answer and leaves out the reason.

  3. Next day

The class has moved on to the next chapter. The mistake is still there.

  4. Coaching

The same chapter, taught the same way, to thirty learners.

  5. The exam

It finds the mistake, and everything that was built on it since.

Every stop on that path is arranged around what one teacher can do in a day: one explanation, one pace, one language, one place. That is as true of coaching and of a recorded lecture as it is of school. Nothing on the path is arranged around the mistake your learner actually made.

Why the book did not catch it

Written for a teacher to teach from.

The rule is printed. The reason is said in class, once, at the class’s pace. A learner reading alone at nine at night stops at the first line they do not follow, and nobody knows.

A standard page

A Manthika page

A worked example from Class 10 Mathematics chapter 1: five steps factorising 378, each with the reason for it beside it.
A worked example from chapter 1 of Class 10 Mathematics. Each step on the left, the reason for it on the right.
  • A margin rail carries the rule, the usual error and the earlier idea it depends on.
  • Every wrong attempt is shown next to its fix.
  • Every worked example gives the reason beside each line.

A book a learner can read alone has to carry the reason on the page. It also has to know what this learner has not understood, and paper cannot do that part.

What changed

Two changes: a phone, a personal book.

A phone can carry the whole book, check each answer the moment it is given, and bring an idea back a few days later. And with AI, a book can be written for one reader at a time: the reason beside every rule, and every wrong answer traced to the idea it depends on.

A class is arranged around what one teacher can do. Manthika is arranged around what your learner needs.
The same wrong answer, with Manthika

Found that evening, back before it fades.

Same Tuesday, same question 4, on the phone your learner already has.

  1. The same class, the same Tuesday. School does not change.
  2. Question 4 is wrong. The lesson checks it at once and gives the reason.
  3. Miss the same idea twice and the lesson goes back to the one it depends on, prime factorisation. That page carries the reason beside every step.
  4. The Feed brings the idea back, in ten minutes on the phone.
  5. The mistake was found and fixed in the week it was made.
The top row is the week as it is. The bottom row is the same week with Manthika.

  • Each mistake is found the evening it is made, with the reason.
  • There is no second classroom. It is all on the phone your learner already has.
  • Your learner works at their own time and their own pace, and nobody has to be watching.

Questions parents ask most

How is a mistake found if the classroom or the book misses it?

A margin rail carries the rule, the usual error and the idea it depends on; every wrong attempt is shown beside its fix, and every worked example explains each line.

Is the “1 in 3 take coaching” claim backed by real data?

Close to 1 in 3 secondary-stage students paid for private coaching on top of school in 2017-18 — India’s National Sample Survey, 75th round.

What does a learner actually do differently with Manthika?

Each mistake is found that evening, with the reason. There is no second classroom — it is all on the phone they already have, at their own pace.
